As a scholar in the field of Comparative and International Development Education, Obafemi has focused on the sub-field of global higher education policy studies. In this arena, he examines the effects of globalization on the operations of universities in African countries. His forthcoming dissertation is tentatively titled, Tracing Excellence in Nigerian Universities and offers case studies of institutions selected to participate in the World Bank funded Africa Centers of Excellence Project. Findings from this qualitative research are intended to inform policymakers and practitioners on gaps between policy and practice in hopes of eliciting alternative cultural frameworks for achieving excellence in the 21st century.
